OLS Walking for Charity

So, in May a staff member in our North East office had a Team meeting with one of our BDMs and Stephen from Emmaus Preston.

During the meeting, Stephen explained the work Emmaus UK does, which providing support to formerly homeless people by providing a home, and meaningful work in one of their social enterprises. The work helps restore the self-esteem almost always lacking in a person who has become homeless. Across the UK there are 29 communities providing support to over 800 formerly homeless people. There are also five Emmaus groups working hard to set up an Emmaus community in their local area.

Stephen also told our team about one of their success stories; Karen’s story. This story resonated with Lynn at our Newcastle office. She herself as a child was at one point homeless and was helped by a women’s refuge along with her mother and sister. So, she then decided that she would do something to help raise awareness and donations for the Emmaus Preston charity. With some fancy footwork and gentle persuasion, Lynn had us all hooked and it was decided that Online Systems would take part in the Emmaus #BigMarathonMonth fundraiser in June. And so our #WeWillWalk500miles challenge started.

We initially looked for 10 participants to each commit to 50 miles, but since then we’ve secured another 10 staff to take part, so it looks like we might just ‘….walk 500 more’!

Throughout June 2021 twenty staff members from Online Systems are taking part in the #BigMarathonMonth to support the work of Emmaus Preston & Burnley and we will be looking to complete 500 miles between us within the month.

We have set up a #JustGiving page – WEWILLWALK500MILES  and hope friends, colleagues, family, and customers will help us try and reach a target of £1 per mile (£500) by 30 June 2021.

Please donate as much as you can to our #BigMarathonMonth fundraiser and help us raise as much as we can for Stephen and his team at #EmmausPreston.
